What is the Best time of day for Sydney Bridge Climb

If you’re thinking about doing Bridge Climbing Adventure, you might be wondering when is the best time to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The short answer is that you can do so at any time. What makes the Bridge so incredible is that you are always guaranteed a spectacular view of the city, the harbour, and its surroundings at all times of the day.

We run climbs at sunrise, noon, sunset, and at night. Each time of day has distinct characteristics that make a Climb special and well worth returning to experience.

Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge for unparalleled views from 440 feet (134 meters). Climb with a guide in the morning, afternoon, twilight, or night on a half-day BridgeClimb.

A Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb Summit Express or Sampler Climb will take you halfway up.

Climbing During the Day time is fun

During the day, you’ll be able to hear the busy hum of Sydney, from the ferries cruising below to Sydneysiders going about their business.

As you ascend, you will be able to take in views of the blue waters of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House, and the beauty of the Royal Botanic Gardens.

You can get some awesome pictures too from the Climngi crew.

Climbing During Night can be a Gorgeous night view

Sydney comes alive at night with bright lights and a thriving nightlife. When you do the BridgeClimb in the evening, you will be treated to illuminated 360-degree views of the city and its surroundings.

Climbing at Dawn

The popular adage “the early bird gets the worm” perfectly describes climbing at dawn. Believe us when we say that waking up in the dark is worthwhile in order to see the sunrise over Sydney Harbour.

CLIMBING AT TWILIGHT

Watching the day transition into the evening from the Summit is a magical sight that has to be seen to be appreciated. The advantage of a twilight Climb is getting the best of two worlds: Sydney during the day and at night.

Best time of day for Sydney Bridge Climb to get Awesome Pictures.

If I’m going to pay a small fortune to risk my life and limb by climbing a bridge, I’d like to take some good photos of the experience.

I know the tour guides take a lot of pictures and sell them to you for exorbitant prices. That doesn’t matter to me as long as the shots are good.

So, what time of day will the sky be a nice blue when you look out from the bridge towards the Opera House?

I don’t want washed-out photos because the sun is behind me, not in front of me.

Afternoon on a  quiet sunny day is the best time of the day to go for Bridge climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and get awesome shots.

In terms of the sun’s direction, if you’re standing on the bridge and looking towards the Opera House, you’re looking South East.

If you want a photo with the Opera House over your shoulder and the sun shining from the front, go in the afternoon. The best light of the day, however, is at sunrise (magic hour), which follows sunset.

This is a soft, warm light. The twilight tours are, of course, the most expensive; you climb in daylight, reach the top of the bridge at sunset, and descend in the semi-darkness.

Even in winter, direct sunlight in the middle of the day is extremely harsh in Australia.

The Bridge Climbing guides appear to always use a flash, which helps with contrast.

Currently, the sun reaches its zenith around 1:15 pm and remains fairly high in the sky until around 3:30 pm. After about 5:30 p.m., the light becomes warmer (though still quite strong); the sun sets behind the horizon around 8 p.m., and by 8:45 p.m., it’s nearly pitch black.

Of course, these times vary from day to day, but for the time being, I’d aim for the top around 6-7 pm for a nice diffuse light, or around 3-4 pm for strong colours and a blue sky.

Are you allowed to take your Camera during the Sydney Bridge Climbing Adventure?

No, unfortunately not. Climbers cannot take loose objects, including cameras, phones or GoPros, on the Bridge. This is to safeguard against anything falling from the Bridge. They provide secure lockers for you to keep your camera or any loose objects in during your Climb.

Their  photographically-trained Climb Leaders will capture photos of you during your Climb, which will be available for pre-purchase with your booking, or from our Photographics Team after your Climb.
